Warning: Spoilers ahead for “Marshals” Season 1, Episode 10 — “Playing with Fire”
Garrett, portrayed by Riley Green, has not had an easy journey, and his latest ordeal on the “Yellowstone” spin-off series “Marshals” is no exception. In the gripping episode titled “Playing with Fire,” the barn where Garrett has been staying on Kayce Dutton’s (Luke Grimes) property is engulfed in flames while he sleeps. The harrowing scene nearly claims Garrett’s life, but thanks to Kayce’s bravery, he is rescued. Despite the rescue, Garrett is left with second-degree burns and lung damage, resulting in a hospital stay.
As Episode 10 concludes, Garrett’s future remains uncertain. Although his condition has shown slight improvement, he is not yet well enough to leave the hospital. His fluctuating consciousness and low oxygen levels keep his life precarious. However, there is a glimmer of hope that Garrett will overcome this dire situation.
For fans eagerly following “Marshals,” Garrett will make at least one more appearance before the season wraps up. He is set to feature in the upcoming Episode 11, “On Thin Ice.” Although specific details about his condition are scarce, promotional images hint at flashbacks to his time alongside Kayce during their Navy SEAL days.
These flashbacks also revisit Garrett’s connection with Pete Calvin, played by Logan Marshall Green. Despite their shared history, Pete harbors a significant grudge against Garrett due to past conflicts during their last tour. The series has yet to fully explore the depth of their animosity, but it clearly strains their professional and personal interactions.
It’s possible that Garrett won’t be done after Season 1
Could Garrett’s story continue beyond this season? Riley Green has remained somewhat tight-lipped about his character’s future, yet in a conversation with USA Today, he mentioned that “there’s the possibility that he could be back.” As Garrett battles for survival, viewers can only hope for a positive turn of events while preparing for any outcome.
That’s also where Garrett met Kayce’s past and current colleague Pete Calvin (Logan Marshall Green), though Pete has a big grudge against Garrett due to his behavior during his last tour of duty. The show hasn’t quite explained what the problem between the two men happens to be, but it’s definitely a lingering issue that continues to impact their relationship, both in the field and behind closed doors.
Might there be more of Garrett in the show sometimes in the future? While Riley Green has stayed somewhat mum on the topic, he told USA Today that “there’s the possibility that he could be back.” That remains to be seen, but as Garrett clings to life, all “Marshals” fans can do is hope for the best — and, in spite of that hopeful note, brace themselves for the worst.
