The curtain has closed on “Gen V,” Prime Video’s much-anticipated spin-off from its hit series “The Boys.” The show has been axed after two seasons, primarily due to dwindling viewer numbers. Initially, the series showed promise, debuting with a strong three-episode launch that garnered 424 million minutes of viewing in mid-September 2025, earning it a spot on the Nielsen streaming top 10 for original content. However, as the season progressed through late September and early October, it struggled to maintain its audience, only reappearing in the top 10 once more, sealing its fate.
“Gen V” followed the lives of superpowered students at Godolkin University as they learned to harness their abilities and vied for positions in the school’s competitive ranking system. The ultimate goal for many was to join the elite superhero team, the Seven, which is managed by the powerful Vought International.
The narrative centered on Marie Moreau, portrayed by Jaz Sinclair, a character with the formidable ability to control blood. Together with her friends, Marie finds herself at odds with university authorities, particularly when students are manipulated to serve the agenda of Homelander’s (Antony Starr) emerging regime. Marie rises as a leader of a rebellious faction, seeking to avert a looming conflict between humans and superheroes.
Despite the show’s cancellation, “Gen V” concluded with a dramatic cliffhanger. Marie confronts Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater) who seeks to exploit her powers for his purposes. With the assistance of Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas), Marie ultimately kills Thomas. The group, now fugitives, is recruited by Annie January (Erin Moriarty), or Starlight, who offers them a role in an expanding global resistance.
Fans can take solace in knowing that the storyline will continue in “The Boys.” The events involving Starlight and her collaboration with the “Gen V” characters are set to play a role in the final season of “The Boys,” currently available on Prime Video. Series executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg assured fans in a statement to Variety, saying, “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the ‘Gen V’ characters’ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”
Season 2 of Gen V left the show in an awkward place
“The Boys” Season 5 has already begun to weave “Gen V” into its plot. In the first episode, Annie mentions Marie’s new leadership role with a team of Starlighters, reinforcing the connection between the two series. While “Gen V” may have concluded, its influence and characters will live on within the universe of “The Boys.”
Fans shouldn’t worry that that storyline will be left dangling forever. Apparently the team’s work with Starlight will factor in some way into the final season of “The Boys,” which is currently streaming on Prime Video as of this writing. “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the ‘Gen V’ characters’ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again,” series executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg said in a joint statement (via Variety).
Indeed, “The Boys” has already referenced “Gen V” in Season 5: Annie mentions in Episode 1 that Marie is now busy running her own team of Starlighters. That strengthens the alliance between the two shows, proving that while “Gen V” may be gone, it won’t be forgotten by its mothership show anytime soon.
