VisionQuest Episode 6 Delivers a Perfect Spider-Man Easter Egg

Vision (Paul Bettany) is known for his calm, measured demeanor, but “VisionQuest” Episode 6, “Deadlock,” reveals the one challenge that can truly test his patience: teenagers. While attempting to rescue Thomas Shepherd (Ruaridh Mollica) from Paladin (Todd Stashwick) in Madripoor, Vision joins forces with Lisa Molinari (Lauren Morais). The partnership quickly becomes difficult when Lisa repeatedly disregards his carefully laid plans.

As an unusually exasperated Vision admits that he cannot understand teenagers, E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire) briefly appears to sympathize with him. Her response contains a clever Easter egg referencing her own introduction in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”

E.D.I.T.H. explains that she understands Vision’s frustration because her first boss was a high school junior. MCU fans will recognize the line as a nod to “Far From Home,” in which E.D.I.T.H. is introduced as the artificial intelligence built into the sunglasses Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) leaves for Peter Parker (Tom Holland). The reference is made even more obvious when the “VisionQuest” version of E.D.I.T.H. briefly puts on the iconic glasses.

Peter Parker and E.D.I.T.H. have an awkward history

E.D.I.T.H. has good reason to understand Vision’s frustration. Her experience with Peter in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” is awkward at best. Peter accidentally uses an E.D.I.T.H.-controlled drone to target his classmate Brad Davis (Remy Hii), then later hands E.D.I.T.H. over to Quentin “Mysterio” Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), who immediately exploits the A.I.’s capabilities as part of his supervillain scheme.

By the end of “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” Mysterio has effectively turned E.D.I.T.H. into a weapon of mass destruction after Peter entrusts her to him. Fortunately for E.D.I.T.H., she remains inactive during the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and avoids getting pulled into that film’s multiversal chaos. Still, MCU viewers familiar with Spider-Man’s story can appreciate the joke: even an immensely powerful artificial intelligence can find teenagers remarkably difficult to manage.
