Atletico Madrid secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after defeating Inter on penalties.

Despite Inter’s 1-0 lead from the first leg, Atletico fought back to win 2-1 in the second leg in Spain, forcing the match into extra time.

Inter took the lead in the intense encounter, with a well-worked goal from Federico Dimarco.

However, Atletico quickly responded within two minutes, with a goal from Antoine Griezmann, leveling the score 1-1.

Just before full time, Memphis Depay netted a beautiful strike into the bottom corner to give Atletico the lead, and bringing the match to 2-2 on aggregate.

As the match progressed into extra time, both teams continued to push for a decisive goal, but neither could find the breakthrough.

With the score still tied after extra time, the match went to penalties.

Atletico emerged winners in the penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Jan Oblak making saves to deny Inter’s Alexis Sanchez and Davy Klaassen.

Lautaro Martinez’s miss sealed Inter’s fate, allowing Atletico to advance to the quarter-finals.

It was a thrilling encounter filled with tension and excitement, showcasing the drama and unpredictability of Champions League football.
