Gypsy Rose Blanchard recently issued an apology following her appearance in a TikTok video where she made light of her mother’s death in 2015.

On Saturday, influencer Natalie Reynolds posted a video of her and Rose, 34, participating in a TikTok trend called “We listen and we don’t judge.” Rose was filmed saying how she went to prison before gesturing an X sign with her hands, mimicking a choking sound, and saying “…my own mom.”

Blanchard spent nearly eight years behind bars for orchestrating the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, by persuading her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to commit the act. Her mother was believed to have Munchausen by proxy syndrome, a condition that led her to confine Gypsy to a wheelchair and subject her to needless medical procedures. Prior to the murder, Dee Dee reportedly kept her daughter isolated and restrained her to prevent escape.

After her release from prison in 2023, Gypsy Rose Blanchard spoke to TMZ, acknowledging the public’s perception of the video as making light of her mother’s demise. She explained that participating in the TikTok trend was her own idea, noting both she and Reynolds have controversial histories.

“The video was meant to highlight accountability and personal growth,” she remarked. “Regrettably, it wasn’t interpreted as we intended.”

Blanchard further clarified to TMZ that her use of the X gesture wasn’t an attempt to trivialize her mother’s passing. Rather, it was meant to circumvent TikTok’s moderation due to the sensitivity of the topic.

“I believed I could present it in a certain way… but considered it a creative method to acknowledge past errors and take responsibility,” she explained.
