DCLM Daily Manna 26 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Peruse, Perceive And Perform
TOPIC: Peruse, Perceive And Perform (DCLM Daily Manna 26 May 2026)
KEY VERSE: Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. – Revelation 1:3
TEXT: Revelation 1:1-8 (KJV)
1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
The renowned American author, C.S. Johnson, shares a family lesson about a difficult situation involving her four-year-old son, Michael. When she found him crying uncontrollably, she knelt beside him and asked if he was hurt. Michael responded that his father had said a bad word to him. The author became curious. The author asked what the word was, and Michael blurted out “Obey.” The author now asks her Heavenly Father to keep her from thinking that “obey” is a bad word, as her son did.
Like poor little Michael, many people who have the privilege of reading and hearing God’s word stumble at the point of obeying it. Today’s Bible passage opens the great events revealed to and recorded by Apostle John on the Island of Patmos, to which persecution banished him. The revelation concerns “the things which are” (the state of the Christ’s church then) and “things which must shortly come to pass” (the future state of the church till the end of this world). It contains not only predictions, but also necessary instructions, warnings and insights that are essential for our spiritual guidance, nourishment and well-being. In this introduction to the book, we see the involvement of the Trinity, particularly the personality and role of Christ as our Mediator in whom we must place our faith.
The key verse emphasises the imperative of reading, hearing and keeping the word. It is not enough to peruse and perceive the word; the blessing lies in the performance of it. Many professing Christians have an excellent knowledge of God’s word, but when the chips are down, they do not obey God. If we are going to profit from His word, the Lord expects us to keep it in our hearts and allow it to influence our decisions, attitudes, ambitions, associations, and actions. The faithful are redeemed and elevated as kings and priests to reign with Christ, whose return is their delightful hope. Presently, they offer spiritual sacrifice to God and triumph over sin, Satan and the world.
Today, there are many professing Christians who cannot endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts have heaped to themselves teachers, having itching ears. This has resulted in many having “a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” But if we seek His blessings, God’s demand remains – read, hear and heed the word.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Knowledge of God’s word without a willingness to obey it affects doubly.
