Gary Neville has goaded an Arsenal fan who called for himself and Jamie Carragher to be banned from the Emirates following their criticism of the club’s recent rebuke of decisions in their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta blasted the awarding of the Magpies second-half winner on Saturday night that was checked by VAR for three potential infractions.

The Gunners in turn stood by their manager and released a statement on Sunday which called on PGMOL to urgently ‘address the standard of officiating.’

The former Manchester United defender said the respective statements were ‘wrong’ and should have been handled in private, while Carragher claimed it was not the right ‘moment to jump on the bandwagon’ and ‘batter people at Stockley Park’.

However, it appears their critiques have not gone over especially well with at least one Gunners fan who took to social media to urge the club to bar the pair from attending their home ground.

‘Arsenal should just tell Sky Sports that both Carragher & Neville are both banned from The Emirates.’ They wrote on X, formerly Twitter. ‘It’s our property so we’ll invite who we want inside it thank you very much.’

Unfazed, Neville responded with a retort sure to needle the Arsenal faithful as he hit back by reminding the supporter of their north London rival’s superior start to the campaign.

Neville wrote: ‘To be fair with Spurs top now we will be coming less anyway.’

Arsenal’s first defeat in the league saw them fail to make up ground on Ange Postecoglou’s high-flyers. Spurs welcome Chelsea to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night looking to return to the top of the table.
