Rashford had an operation on his long-term shoulder problem shortly after England’s Euro 2020 campaign came to an end and the 23-year-old was initially expected to miss three months of action while recuperating.
However, Rashford, working closely with United’s medical staff, has made significant strides with his rehabilitation and was pictured in light training at Carrington for the first time earlier this month.
The Red Devils will look to ease the forward back steadily so as not to risk further injury, especially as they already have an embarrassment of riches up front in his absence.
There are hopes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could call upon Rashford for United’s matches with Leicester and Atalanta after the next international break and the attacker will no doubt be chomping at the bit to be involved once again.
But according to The Daily Mirror, the England international’s main target is the club’s highly-anticipated encounter with arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on October 24.
When back fit and available, Rashford will add yet another dimension to United’s star-studded attack, with Solskjaer also boasting Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani.
Asked for an update on Alex Telles and Rashford ahead of United’s Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham, Solskjaer said: ‘Yeah it’s going well. They’ve worked really hard, both of them.
‘Alex is a bit further on than Marcus.
‘I don’t think we’ll see Marcus until after the international break but Alex has worked well and will be in the squad as well.’
After their midweek disappointment in the EFL Cup, United will be desperate to return to winning ways as they prepare to play host to Aston Villa.
Solskjaer’s men sit third in the table on goal difference and can maintain pressure on Chelsea and Liverpool above them with three points at the Theatre of Dreams this weekend.
