Mikel Arteta has confirmed Ben White suffered an injury during last week’s win over Manchester United, but played down fears Takehiro Tomiyasu has suffered a reoccurrence of a calf injury.

Summer signing White had been a near ever-present at the heart of his side’s defence since his move from Brighton but a hamstring injury prevented him from featuring in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over West Ham.

‘Ben got injured vs Man United,’ revealed Arteta in his post-match press conference. ‘We have to assess him in the next few days.’

White’s stand-in, Rob Holding, delivered a man of the match display during which he scored his first ever Premier League goal after six years as an Arsenal players.

‘I am really happy, especially for Rob Holding as he hasn’t played the amount of minutes he deserves,’ added Arteta.

‘He was man of the match today. He is always there when we need him.’

The victory also featured Tomiyasu who made a first Premier League start since January and coped comfortably with everything West Ham had to throw at him.

Arteta was forced to substitute the dependable Japan international with 12 minutes remaining with the former Bologna defender appearing to clutch his calf.

‘Tomi has been out for so long and he could not continue,’ said Arteta who added he wasn’t concerned by the 22-year-old’s injury.
