Asda shoppers are eager to get their hands on a budget-friendly sweet treat that includes 20g of protein per serving. More and more people are keen to up their protein intake due to the many associated health and fitness benefits – but different people need different amounts.

Protein is an essential element of a healthy, balanced diet as it helps ensure our hair and skin are in good condition.

Proteins “break down into amino acids that help the body grow and repair”, with viable sources including pulses, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds, grains like quinoa, fish, eggs, meat and more.

Guidance from the British Heart Foundation states: “Most adults need around 0.75g of protein per kilo of body weight per day”. For the average woman, this is 45g, while for the average man, it’s 55g. The foundation adds: “That’s about two portions of meat, fish, nuts or tofu per day. As a guide, a protein portion should fit into the palm of your hand.”

Many companies are aware of the growing interest in protein, adding it to an eclectic medley of products.

Popular supermarket Asda – known and loved for its vast range of household goods and necessities like food, cleaning products, baby care items and more, as well as its on-trend homeware, clothing, and limited edition releases – is home to one protein-packed product that’s intriguing shoppers; Arla’s protein milkshake.

Arla’s Protein Vanilla Fudge Flavour Milkshake and Protein Chocolate Brownie Flavour Milkshake each come in 200ml cups with an attached straw and provide 20g of protein each. They’re currently on offer at £1.17, down from £2.10.

Popular food and snack account New Foods UK shared an image of the milkshakes – spotted in Asda stores – with its 373k followers on Instagram.

The account remains a go-to source for thousands of food lovers thanks to its consistent photo and video postings of all the newest food items spotted in supermarkets and other stores up and down the country.

Typically, its posts inspire a flurry of comments from people eager to share their thoughts and opinions on items showcased by the account, with the Arla protein milkshakes proving no different.

One person said: “These are so nice, just like having a thick milkshake [plus an] easy 20g of protein”.

Another said: “They are super thick” while a third requested: “Please review”. Many others simply tagged their friends to direct them to the post.

The British Heart Foundation states: “In 2016, new dietary guidelines placed greater emphasis on non-meat sources of protein.

“We don’t need to avoid meat and dairy entirely, but it does remind us that we need a varied diet to stay healthy.”

As per guidance from the NHS, all diets should strive to be healthy and balanced to ensure people feel their best and remain in good physical condition.

The Eatwell Guide shows that to have a balanced and healthy diet, people should try to eat at least five portions of “a variety of fruit and vegetables every day”.

If you’re keen to give Arla’s protein milkshakes a try for yourself, visit your nearest Asda store.
