Skin is the largest organ in the body. It has various important functions such as serving as a protective barrier against injury and toxic substances as well as helping to regulate temperature. Therefore, it has been designed to be durable.

But with age it becomes less so, and can start to sag and wrinkle. While we can’t prevent this completely there are steps we can all take to help keep our skin looking healthy and even younger for longer.

According to one expert, there are six steps we could all follow to have this desired effect.

A 64-year-old woman who runs TikTok account Health-e-Habits Nutrition shared the methods she uses to keep her skin looking youthful.

In a video filed under “youthful skin over 50” and “mature skin solutions” she listed six things she does for her skin.

These are:

  • Anti-inflammatory diet
  • Two to three litres of filtered water daily
  • Natural sunscreen
  • Liquid collagen
  • Collagen skincare
  • Stress less.

Her followers were impressed with one commenting, “Glowing!”

Another viewer asked: “What’s an anti-inflammatory diet?”

She clarified: “No sugar, processed foods. Good quality protein, healthy fats and fibre at each meal. Antioxidant rich fruits and veggies. Reduce alcohol and drink filtered water.”

This advice is backed by facialist and aesthetician Andy Millward, who explains on his site: “I teach my clients that chronic inflammation is at the root of all common skin concerns such as acne, rosacea, eczema, pigmentation and premature ageing.

“I therefore encourage an anti-inflammatory diet, although I am often faced with bewilderment!

“Put simply an anti-inflammatory diet consists of foods that a) reduce inflammation and/or b) don’t cause an inflammatory response on the body.

“Thus helping to reduce chronic inflammation within the body and help it to heal.”
