A mother who shed around 11 stone has opened up about the lifestyle changes behind her transformation, crediting the weight loss app Simple with helping her overhaul her eating habits. Laci Gilbert also incorporated at-home wall Pilates into her routine, using nothing more than a wall to support her workouts.

Speaking to The Mirror, Laci described the app as “great for a busy person” as she shared what kept her motivated and the results she achieved. Simple bills itself as a clinically proven weight loss tool, with the company claiming its users have collectively lost more than 18 million pounds.

Laci said she discovered the app after confronting concerns about her own health and her family’s medical history, explaining: “I just knew at 275lb with a family history of heart disease, diabetes, and other weight related health issues that it was only a matter of time before those started affecting me.

“My daughter was also having anxiety attacks at the thought of having to be without her mother, that’s a heavy weight to bear. It weighed on me heavily.”

Recalling how she first found the programme, she added: “I was scrolling through Facebook one day and came across the Simple app. I took a short quiz, I downloaded the app.” Laci admitted that, during her first attempts, “life happened” and she struggled to stay consistent. But in April 2023, she said, “something clicked, something happened.”

Explaining the approach that finally worked for her, Laci said: “I combine using the Simple app, fasting, and changing my schedule round a little bit with wall pilates.”

According to Simple, its method does not rely on restrictive dieting. Instead, users complete a quiz so the app can create a personalised plan based on their goals and needs. For those who want extra encouragement, the app also features Blinky, a furry virtual companion that celebrates meal logging and nudges users to stay accountable when they forget to update their progress.

Now, those wishing to try Simple can do so for less thanks to the code REACH which gives 80% off Simple’s weight loss plans. What’s more, those embarking on a journey with a friend, neighbour, family member or partner can now take advantage of the app’s 2-for-1 offer which allows the premium membership to be shared with one person.

Laci also had particular praise for Simple’s wall pilates workouts, commenting: “Simple App’s integrated wall pilates workouts are a lot different from weight training. When I first started doing them I felt like I wasn’t really getting a whole lot done because I was not getting winded, I did not have the fatigue that I normally have with going to the gym with weight training and cardio, however in the following days I did notice some muscle soreness.

“It gave me definition in my arms, my legs and I can’t emphasise enough the benefits of the mental load it removes.” It is of course worth noting that individual results using the Simple app may vary and what works for one person may not suit another, but the app’s various features are there to help users on their journey.

These include convenient food logging, an intermittent fasting tracker, a NutriScanner designed to help users understand the nutrition in their meals, and access to Avo – an AI powered coach who answers questions. The more app users interact with Avo, the more it understands their individual needs and preferences.

For those wanting to know a little more about the aforementioned Blinky, the feature has been designed to offer emotional support in addition to the app’s practical help.

Elsewhere, those wanting support with logging their meals may wish to opt to download myfitnesspal. The app says it’s supported over 280 million people on their journey to eat better, build lasting habits, and reach goals, and there’s a free version available.

Meanwhile, the FitOn app offers ‘unlimited access to the world’s best workouts, meditation, nutrition and more’ and there’s also a sign up free option.

Back to the Simple app, and Laci isn’t the only one with praise for the brand. Over at Trustpilot, the app boasts an impressive 4.3 star rating which the site deems ‘excellent.’ With over 44,000 reviews, it’s a popular choice.

One fan said: “I love the app. The exercises are doable, I’m losing weight. Easy to speak with an AI advisor. You can log what eat so you don’t overeat, it really a great App.”

Another commented: “I love the recipe suggestions that can make my meals better for me.” It is worth considering that one user said as part of their review: “The app is too cumbersome to navigate.”

Despite this, plenty of others had high praise for Simple, with someone else commenting: “This app is an awesome way to help me remain conscious of what I’m eating and what I’m drinking, and the AI is amazing!”

A final review reads: “I have enjoyed my whole experience with Blinky and my coach, it’s been an absolute game changer.”
