Weird 1p period pad tip that can soothe sunburn pain

Sunburn can be very painful and while sore skin might improve within a week, one woman has found a hack that can help relieve symptoms meaning you can still enjoy the hot weather, wearing the clothes you want.

In a Reddit post, user I_just_need_coffee demonstrated the simple trick that can help with anyone who still wants to wear a bra or tight straps after they’ve been sunburnt – but can’t bare the pain. The poster came up with a super cheap DIY solution. All you need is a pack of period pads and this could cost you less than 1p, as Tesco now sells sanitary towels for just 42p. Showing the trick with her sports bra, the woman revealed that she used two period pads to cushion the straps – which can further irritate and press on already sensitive sun burnt skin.

She also cleverly soaked the pads in aloe vera before securing them to her bra straps using the sticky side. This works two ways . Aloe vera helps cools and hydrate the skin, which can help relieve the symptoms of sunburn. While the pads provided cushioning between the straps and her skin.

Medic experts at WebMD reported on the benefits of aloe vera. Aloe vera contains a compound called loin, known for its significant anti-inflammatory properties that further soothe the skin. One moisturiser to absolutely avoid on sunburnt skin is anything containing petroleum jelly, as confirmed by the NHS.

One should also steer clear of ice, refrain from scratching the skin and avoid wearing tight clothes. “Other research shows that aloe vera is useful specifically for treating burns,” they explained.

“A review of four studies involving 371 people found that aloe vera is effective for treating first- and second-degree burns.

According to the professionals, the ingredient can help soothe blisters and reduce redness and swelling.

Reddit users shared their thoughts on the hack in the comments section. “Oh, you poor dear. Glad you found something to help. Now get thee to the patent office!” wrote one reader.

“Great idea! Hope it helps and you heal quickly,” said another social media user. “That’s genius. I’m going to borrow that this summer,” commented a third person.

“Place a paper towel moist with white vinegar on the burn for 30 minutes, and in the morning its pain-free,” suggested another reader. “Damn, if that isn’t clever!” said another Reddit user.

“I had the absolute worst sunburn on my shoulders on vacation. I couldn’t wear a bra or anything with straps. The pain was unreal,” said another person.

“That wasn’t my last shoulder sunburn so I’m prepared for the next time. Thanks!” In fair skin, sunburn may manifest as pink or red; in darker skin, there might not be a noticeable colour change, but pain could be present.

Once you realise you’re sunburnt, it’s crucial to seek shade immediately as the condition is evident of the sun’s potent UV rays hitting your skin and skin cells, potentially leading to long-term effects such as skin wrinkling and cancer.
