One touch and finish. Simple training ground instructions that Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur executed to perfection on his return from injury.

The Uruguayan was injured in February after rupturing his ACL in Tottenham’s defeat against Leicester. He underwent knee surgery to rectify the issue and returned to training a few weeks ago.

However, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou might be tempted to thrust the midfielder into the starting side against Crystal Palace on Friday night after seeing Bentancur score a sensational goal in training.

One of Tottenham’s goalkeepers dived helplessly to try and stop the shot that nestled in the back of the net to cue wild celebrations from Bentancur’s team-mates.

Emerson Royal congratulated his colleague with a huge hug while others jumped in and clapped their approval at the brilliant strike that demonstrated perfect poise and power.

Bentancur is yet to be involved in a matchday squad for Tottenham this season but could be recalled by Postecoglou for their upcoming Premier League clash that could give Spurs a five-point lead at the top of the table.

Impressed Spurs supporters showed their delight with the returning midfielder’s goal and welcomed the 26-year-old back from his long-term injury lay-off.

One fan posted on X – formerly Twitter – reacted online, stating: ‘Absolutely sublime! Lolo’s touch and finish left us in awe.’

Another rejoiced and hilariously claimed the player’s knee surgeon should be awarded: ‘Benta’s knee surgeon should win player of the season.’

A third Tottenham fan explained how happy they were to see Bentancur back involved in team training, adding: ‘Last season when he walked off the field my heart actually sunk I was broken I knew what it meant! But this is a real treat he battled to keep us alive but he comes back to better times. It’s been a long time coming lolo we missed you brother.’

Bentancur joined Tottenham on a four-year deal in January last year and was regularly picked by previous manager Antonio Conte.

He has made 44 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and registering six assists in the process.
