In the early hours of Monday morning, a post-Super Bowl celebration turned unexpectedly violent for San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White, who found himself in the hospital following a shooting incident. The altercation took place at a bar and nightclub known as Dahlia’s, where White was hosting a party.

San Francisco police were dispatched to the scene on the 1700 block of Mission Street around 4 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Official statements from the police indicate that shots were fired by an unknown suspect, resulting in White sustaining an injury to his ankle.

The altercation reportedly involved rapper “Lil Baby,” escalating to the point where White was shot. The incident has raised questions about security and the nature of the dispute that led to such a drastic outcome.

Despite the severity of the incident, there is a silver lining. The San Francisco 49ers confirmed that White underwent surgery on Monday afternoon, which was deemed successful. Fortunately, his injuries are not expected to be career-threatening, providing a sense of relief to the team and fans alike.

As the investigation continues, the Niners have assured that they will keep the public informed with updates as they become available. For now, the focus remains on White’s recovery and the ongoing efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.

White underwent successful surgery Monday afternoon, according to the team. His injuries are not considered to be career-threatening. The Niners said they “will provide further updates when appropriate.”

News of the shooting has sent shockwaves through the Bay Area which had just finished hosting a successful Super Bowl hours before.

In a post on X, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie wrote:

“Any violent incident in our city is unacceptable, and I’m hoping Keion recovers quickly. I’ve spoken with SFPD and 49ers leadership- we are all grateful to our SFPD officers for their quick response. As always, I will continue working with San Francisco law enforcement to ensure our neighborhoods and our residents are safe.”

On Monday morning, White took to his own social media to post a photo from the stands at the Super Bowl.

Comments on that post show an outpouring of support from fans after word had gotten out.

On the streets of the city near where the shooting happened, people who live there are also processing the news.

Elina Kang says she was woken up by the police activity outside her apartment.

“My window is right by my bed so I saw lights. I think that’s why I woke up at first,” said Kang.

Kang said she only moved to the area last week but knows it’s had its problems with safety in the past.

“It kind of seems par for the course. I’m not entirely like how could this happen here,” said Kang.

The San Francisco Police Department says the case remains open and no arrests have been made.

White is the second 49ers player to be shot in the past 18 months, after wide receiver Ricky Pearsall who was shot in the chest during an armed robbery in Union Square.
