ORLANDO, Fla. – A two-alarm fire at an Orlando apartment complex on Friday forced officials to condemn an entire building and left several residents searching for temporary housing, according to the Orlando Fire Department.
Firefighters said the blaze started on the second floor of the complex at 2994 S. Rio Grande Ave. Crews were able to bring the flames under control and fully put out the fire. No injuries were reported.
Entire building condemned after blaze
After the fire, Code Enforcement determined the full building had to be condemned, extending the order beyond only the units that sustained direct fire damage.
Officials have confirmed that nine adults and one child have been displaced so far. However, Orlando Fire said some residents have not yet been reached, so the number of people affected may increase.
Red Cross working to find temporary housing
The Orlando Fire Department, property management and the Red Cross are coordinating efforts to identify everyone displaced by the fire and help arrange suitable temporary accommodations.
Residents who were forced from their homes because of the fire are urged to contact the Red Cross for support.
