MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 59-year-old man from Dunnellon lost his life in a collision Thursday evening while operating a pickup truck in Marion County, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 6:24 p.m. on County Road 225A near NW 110th Street, troopers said.
An FHP crash report indicates that the truck was heading northbound on CR-225A, attempting to navigate a left curve. The vehicle veered off the road onto the right grass shoulder, continued north over a private driveway, before going back to the shoulder and colliding with an electrical box, according to the report.
The vehicle kept moving north into a grassy ditch, where it struck several tree branches and finally impacted a standing tree, prompting the truck to rotate and flip over, the troopers reported.
The report states that as the truck overturned onto its roof, the man was partially ejected from the driver’s window. The vehicle ended up on its roof in the grassy ditch, to the right side of the road, facing east, as mentioned in the report. Troopers suspect the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
A paramedic with Marion County Fire Rescue pronounced the man dead at 6:37 p.m., according to FHP.
