VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man walking along a road in Volusia County early Saturday was hit and killed by a car, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 2:12 a.m. on State Road 44 (New York Avenue) near its intersection with Blue Lake Avenue, troopers said.

In an FHP crash report, the pedestrian — a 64-year-old man from DeLand — was said to be east of the intersection, heading west on S.R. 44 when he was struck by a sedan traveling east on the same road. Troopers noted that the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, while the car’s occupants — a 21-year-old driver and a 24-year-old passenger, both from DeLand — were unharmed and stayed at the location, according to the report.

    FHP is still investigating.
