ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A Volusia County EMS ambulance en route to an accident on I-95 was rear-ended, forcing it off the road and into a guardrail, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incidents occurred Tuesday morning on the northbound stretch of I-95 at mile marker 268, near Ormond Beach.

Authorities reported that the ambulance was responding to a two-car crash on I-95 and was slowing down when it was hit from behind.

The collision propelled both the ambulance and the vehicle that hit it off the highway, causing them to crash into the guardrail, as stated by troopers.

Three individuals involved in the crashes were transported to Daytona Halifax Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Fortunately, the two paramedics on board the ambulance were unharmed and stayed at the scene, FHP reported.

The inside lane of I-95 north was blocked in the area, but the center and outside lanes are open.

    The crashes are under investigation.
