AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Since 2017, the Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce has been shining a light on businesses in the CSRA that are black-owned, women-owned, minority-owned, or disadvantaged.

To mark Black Business Month in August, a representative from the GABCC mentioned that the summit is a platform for these businesses to network and showcase their services.

“Augusta boasts a vibrant Black business community, which we are eager to keep highlighting. It’s crucial for people to recognize this. We have incorporated a QR code on our table where visitors can explore our directory, featuring over 200 members. This is a message we are keen to spread,” shared Shagraila Hammond, Program Manager for the Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce.

Hammond says they allow themselves to be the conduit between government, business and community.

A business owner I spoke with explains more about what she does.

“I’m a private chef, venturing to various locations to cook. Currently, I’m also setting up a cooking school named OnSite Cooking Academy. It will offer opportunities for date nights, children’s cooking classes, or group events,” explained Kia Bolton, Owner of OnSite Mobile Cook & Sip.

Bolton says she is grateful to be a part of the Black Business Summit and to see her table getting attention.

“Being here feels rewarding, engaging in networking, and as you mentioned, my table has been active since I arrived. It’s uplifting to meet people who recognize me and are eager to try my health-conscious dishes. I’m truly thankful,” Bolton expressed.

If you missed the event this year, it always takes place during the last week in August.
