DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – Authorities in Daytona Beach are delving into the details of a deadly shooting that unfolded early Sunday morning at Derbyshire Park.
The Daytona Beach Police Department reported that their officers initially responded to a local medical facility where a patient was admitted with a gunshot wound. Subsequent investigations revealed that the incident had taken place at Derbyshire Park.
According to police accounts, an adult man and woman were parked in the park when they were confronted by a stranger. This encounter escalated into a conflict, during which the stranger allegedly brandished a firearm.
Investigators noted that the male victim, in response, retrieved his own gun and instructed the intruder to leave.
As the stranger began to walk away, he reportedly turned back and fired several shots, hitting the male victim. The police stated that the victim fired back, wounding the stranger.
Following the exchange of gunfire, the injured man and woman managed to drive themselves to a nearby hospital for medical assistance. Police officers later discovered the body of the other man at the scene in Derbyshire Park.
All parties have been identified, police said, but names are being withheld as detectives work to determine the full circumstances.
Investigators said the motive remains unclear and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
