In the tranquil community of Wedgefield, Florida, an unsettling overnight shooting has left residents feeling uneasy. Known for its calm atmosphere, the neighborhood was the unexpected backdrop for a violent incident involving a teenager.

Witnesses recount that the shooting occurred on Abalone Boulevard, located in the peaceful area nestled between Bithlo and Christmas. The shock of the event was palpable among neighbors, who described the sudden transformation of their quiet streets into a bustling crime scene.

Elmer Planter, an Orange County resident, expressed his dismay over the incident. He shared that what began as a serene evening was abruptly disrupted by the sound of two gunshots. Upon hearing the shots, Planter stepped outside his home to discover a young individual lying in distress on the ground.

Authorities quickly arrived, and amidst the ensuing investigation, a person was taken into custody. Planter mentioned that the individual arrested appears to be another teenager, possibly residing nearby. The community is now left grappling with the realities of the violence that unfolded within their midst, questioning how such an event could have erupted in their otherwise peaceful environment.

Planter said he heard two shots, went outside and saw a person lying across the street on his back.

He said deputies rushed to the scene and someone he believes is also a teenager was taken into custody. He said he believes the suspect lives across the street.

At that home, a relative said the alleged shooter lives there and was arrested in connection with the shooting.

The relative also said the two teens knew each other. News 6 has reached out to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for more details. We’ll update this story when we hear back.
