NEW MARKET, Tenn. (WATE) — On Saturday morning, New Market Firefighters and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies headed out on an unusual rescue mission after they received a call about a calf stuck in a sinkhole.

Fire Chief Sammy Solomon explained that both the firefighters and deputies were sent to Friends Station Road in New Market right around 7:39 a.m. to help free the calf.

The calf had become trapped in a sinkhole that was around 8 feet in both width and depth. Photos taken at the scene show the rescue team working together around the sinkhole, with a rope utilized to help pull the calf to safety.

The firefighters and deputies rescued the calf alive. Solomon said neither the calf nor personnel were injured.
