Hundreds attend candlelight vigil to raise awareness of domestic violence

Candlelight Vigil Draws Hundreds to Highlight Domestic Violence Awareness

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Savannah residents gathered Thursday at Forsyth Park to honor people affected by domestic violence.

The sky was lit with hundreds of candles as community members gathered for a moment of reflection and remembrance.

SAFE Shelter, responsible for organizing the vigil, is the sole domestic violence shelter specifically serving the Savannah area. The vigil aimed to commemorate the lives lost and extend solidarity to those who have survived domestic violence.

Speakers shared stories of loss, survival and hope, reminding everyone of the importance of protecting victims and preventing future violence.

Organizers said they hope the event inspires ongoing community action to raise awareness, prevent abuse and protect those at risk.

SAFE Shelter will continue hosting events throughout October for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
