The investigation into the homicide of a Champaign resident has reached the one-month mark, with police continuing to seek assistance from the community through Crime Stoppers to crack the case.
The victim, Michael Huffman, was discovered deceased from a gunshot wound on the morning of August 27. Authorities ascertained that he had been lying near the train tracks close to Maple and Prairie Streets for several hours and was beyond saving.
Initially, officers were uncertain about the precise timing of Huffman’s murder as there were no emergency calls reporting gunfire on the night before or the morning he was discovered.
The Champaign Police Department is appealing to the public for leads on potential suspects involved in Huffman’s murder. Residents in the vicinity are encouraged to review footage from their home security systems, if available, to identify any suspicious individuals or vehicles.
