CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A hotel, movie theater, and restaurant in Champaign County were reported to have unsatisfactory conditions following their recent health inspections.

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham in Champaign, located at 1900 Center Drive in Champaign, received a red placard following a health inspection on June 23.

During the inspection, there were three risk factor/intervention violations and one repeat risk factor/intervention violation.

During the inspection, it was noted that several food items such as milk, whipped sweet cream butter, yogurt, and cream cheese were kept in a cooler that did not maintain the required temperature of 41ºF or below. The coolers containing these items were deemed unusable, and the improperly stored items were discarded. Consequently, the hotel’s food service operations were ordered to shut down, and a red placard was displayed due to the absence of adequate cold-holding equipment.

Other issues the inspector noted during the June 23 inspection included:

  • The paper towel dispenser at the hand washing station was empty
  • A spray bottle containing yellowish solution was found without a common name label
  • A spray bottle with a purple solution was mislabeled as “Multi Surface Cleaner & Disinfectant” but was actually “Fabuloso” solution according to the person in charge

However, within two days, a follow-up inspection occurred on June 25. The inspector confirmed the repair of the faulty coolers and the removal of any unapproved equipment. This allowed the hotel’s food service to resume operations fully, and a green placard was issued to signify compliance.

AMC Champaign 13

AMC Champaign 13, located at 910 Meijer Drive, was given a yellow placard this week.

During a previous inspection, the movie theater was given a violation correction form (VCF). An inspector had found that the water line at the three-compartment sink was supplying water to the chemical dispenser. AMC was required to submit proof that they had installed a separate water line for the chemical dispenser, and was given until June 18 to turn in their corrections.

When the corrections were not submitted on time, a yellow placard was posted on June 20. Now, AMC must turn in the VCF by July 3. If they don’t, the health department will post a red placard at the facility, and the food service will be closed.

Arby’s

Arby’s, located at 760 W Champaign Avenue in Rantoul, was given a yellow placard on June 9.

During a previous inspection, Arby’s was given a violation correction form (VCF). An inspector noted that a chemical dispenser was connected to a mop sink faucet — but that the water wasting tee (designed to prevent backflow) was not working. Arby’s was required to install backflow protection that had been approved, a water line specifically for chemical dispensing, or to remove the chemical dispenser.

The corrections were not made in time, so a yellow placard was posted on June 9. Arby’s was given until June 23 to make the corrections. If the corrections were not made in time, the health permit would be suspended, and a red placard would be posted.

The very next day, however, Arby’s was reinspected. According to the inspection report, the restaurant submitted proof that a functioning backflow prevention device was installed, and the VCF was completed. A green placard was posted.
