Champaign man hospitalized in Saturday night shooting

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A 21-year-old Champaign man was hurt after a shooting on Saturday.

Champaign Police Department officers responded to the intersection of Giboney and Tower Streets at approximately 10:40 p.m. following reports of gunshots nearby. At the 1400 block of Clock Street, officers discovered signs of gunfire.

In concurrence with the search, a man who suffered gunshot wounds to his arm and torso arrived at a local hospital. According to police, the man received medical care and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

During the investigation, it was determined that the 21-year-old victim was driving through an alley close to Clock Street when unknown individuals fired upon his vehicle, resulting in his injuries. Authorities also found another vehicle damaged in the incident.

Champaign police remained in the area for several hours to collect evidence, and search for witnesses and video footage that could help the investigation. No arrests have been made as of Sunday afternoon, and the investigation is ongoing.
