The Champaign Police Department is reaching out to the public in collaboration with Crime Stoppers to help identify individuals responsible for stealing $800 in goods from Meijer, with an attempted total theft of goods valued at four times that amount.
Authorities report that the incident took place on the night of May 28. At around 9:12 p.m., three individuals entered the Meijer store located at 2401 North Prospect Avenue in Champaign. They proceeded to fill several totes with various items, which they placed into a shopping cart. One individual was noted to be wearing a black and yellow Meijer jacket during the incident. They then exited the store, joining up with the others outside.
The trio had managed to amass over $3,200 in merchandise. However, thanks to loss prevention personnel who intervened, 75% of the attempted stolen items were recovered. Despite this, the individuals successfully escaped with $800 worth of goods.
The trio was recorded on camera as the theft happened. They were described as:
- A male of unknown race, 26-35 years old, approximately 5′ 3″ to 5′ 9″ tall with an average build. He was wearing a black and yellow Meijer jacket, a black cap, a surgical mask and khaki pants
- A Black male, 26-35 years old, approximately 5′ 3″ to 5′ 9″ tall with a slender build. He was wearing a back hoodie and blue jeans, and he had a gray and black beard and a mustache
- A Black female, 26-50 years old, approximately 5′ 3″ to 5′ 9″ tall with a slender build. She was wearing a black hoodie, gray sweatpants, sunglasses, and had short gray hair.
