SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Since 2025 began, researchers from Cybernews have discovered that sixteen billion login credentials for a wide range of websites have been leaked.

The report highlights that they found 30 exposed datasets containing login details, including passwords, for major platforms such as Google, Facebook, and Apple.

Though it’s unclear how many users or accounts were compromised, the researchers emphasized that none of these companies experienced a centralized data breach. Instead, it appears the data was stolen gradually by various infostealing methods, according to the findings.

“Infostealers are a form of malicious software that breaches a victim’s device or systems to take sensitive information,” the Associated Press reported.

It’s unclear who has the data, according to the AP. The article from the AP said that 16 billion is around double the amount of people on earth, meaning that some could have had their data leaked for multiple accounts.

Cybernews reported that researchers have been monitoring the exposed data since the beginning of 2025. In the article, they display several screenshots of what they said is exposed passwords.

If you are concerned that your data was leaked, officials suggest changing your password and avoid using the same or similar login information for multiple accounts.
