Representative Haley Stevens from Michigan revealed on Thursday her plan to propose impeachment against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., citing “health care chaos” under his management.
In a post on the platform X, Stevens expressed, “Health care disarray, irresponsible budget cuts, and escalating costs are burdens on Michiganders and families nationwide, consequences of RFK Jr.’s policies. Enough is enough. That’s why I’m preparing articles of impeachment against @SecKennedy.”
Stevens has repeatedly called for Kennedy’s removal from his role since he became health secretary.
She called for Kennedy to resign earlier this month, citing the slashing of medical research for pediatric cancer and vaccines.
“Michiganders have had enough of politicians seeking the spotlight while neglecting real issues. I’ve witnessed sufficient disorder from this administration and Secretary Kennedy,” Stevens remarked in a statement on September 15.
“His actions are jeopardizing the health and safety of Michiganders. He needs to step down immediately. We need leaders who champion science, health, and the community, not those who hinder the advancements our families and researchers strive to accomplish.”
This push for Kennedy’s impeachment arises amidst federal health policies and advice opposed by prominent medical bodies, like changes to childhood vaccination schedules and President Trump’s advice against Tylenol for pregnant women.
Growing concern among Republican senators about the Trump administration’s health directives is becoming evident, with one senator informing The Hill that Republicans are “beginning to diverge” from these actions.
