ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A homicide inquiry was initiated Sunday after a man was shot inside a car that also contained a toddler, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Authorities reported they were initially called to a scene where a vehicle had collided with a parked car at an auto shop located on Emerson Avenue South. The incident took place shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found that the driver, 21-year-old Tyrone Howard, had suffered a gunshot wound. Found alongside him in the car was an 18-month-old girl.

Authorities said the toddler was not injured but was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to be checked out.
