Two people dead in drownings on Hilton Head, Hunting Island

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. () — On Wednesday, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) shared on Facebook about two tragic drownings that occurred in South Carolina this week.

The first incident happened on Monday at around 6:30 p.m. when the BCSO attended to a situation involving a 69-year-old man who drowned at Coligny Beach on Hilton Head Island. A bystander assisted in bringing the man to shore, where a lifeguard attempted resuscitation efforts.

The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office later identified the man as William King. King died at approximately 7:07 p.m. on the scene.

The following day, on Tuesday, deputies were called shortly before 5:30 p.m. to Hunting Island where a 65-year-old man was spotted floating in the water by a fishing bystander. The bystander helped bring him to shore and initiated CPR.

Despite life-saving efforts, both men died. The two victims were both from Georgia.

As the busy Fourth of July weekend approaches, the BCSO cautions all on water safety.
