FISHER, Ill. (WCIA) — Fisher freshman Ellie Emberson is already breaking records, setting a new school and conference meet record in the two-mile.
Emberson qualified for state in the one mile and two mile events.
In Thursday’s prelims, she was the highest-finishing freshman in the mile with a time of 5:19.44.
She started running back in fourth grade, back when COVID hit.
Emberson didn’t expect to set record-setting times this early in her high school career.
“No, I did not, but now I know I have to break it over my next three years,” Emberson said.
“An athlete like her only comes around once in a lifetime,” remarked Neil Bidner, the Fisher track and field coach. “Her self-motivation is unmatched, and she’s ready to tackle any workout I set to achieve her goals.”
Emberson is now eligible for $1,000 scholarship we’ll give away to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year.
