(NewsNation) — The conclusion of a significant chapter is upon us. The Farmer’s Almanac, a staple for 208 years, announced on Thursday that it will release its final edition, much to the disappointment of farmers, gardening enthusiasts, and weather aficionados.

Established in Maine, this annual publication has been a trusted source of weather forecasts, gardening tips, and various insights since its inception in 1818.

Distinct from the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the Farmer’s Almanac revealed that its 2026 issue will mark its final print edition, with the digital version ceasing operations in December.

The Farmer’s Almanac offers more than just weather forecasts; it is a diverse resource encompassing gardening, culinary advice, home remedies, household tips, and astrology.

Since it first went to print in 1818, the Farmer’s Almanac has been published annually, delivering a rich collection of articles and practical guides. According to its website, the publication includes planning calendars and advice on topics ranging from optimal gardening and fishing days to breaking bad habits and natural home remedies.

Why is the Farmer’s Almanac ending?

In a farewell piece titled “A Fond Farewell,” Editor Sandi Duncan and Editor Emeritus Peter Geige said, “Though the Almanac will no longer be available in print or online, it lives on within you.”

They continued, “So go ahead—plant your peas when the daffodils bloom. Watch for a red sky at night. Tell the kids how granddad always swore by the Almanac. That’s how our story stays alive.”

The piece had no mention of why it would cease publication, but CBS News reports that there were “financial challenges” amid a “chaotic media environment.”

The 2026 edition is available on FarmersAlmanac.com, Amazon and a host of retail stores.

How accurate is the Farmers’ Almanac?

The outlet claims 80% accuracy, although a 2010 University of Illinois study determined a 52% accuracy rate.

The 2025-2026 forecast “calls for a season of dramatic swings and widespread wintry weather,” the website says. “Get ready to hit the slopes!”

The Northern Plains to New England will experience the coldest temperatures, and those in the Northwest should prepare for a cold winter, the Farmers’ Almanac predicts. Idaho and Washington should particularly be on the lookout.

A “cold spell” is expected in mid-February.
