Community Spotlight: Courage Connection

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Matthew Fletcher, the Interim Executive Director of Courage Connection, joined WCIA’s Mitchell Rife to discuss an upcoming event.

Courage Connection stands as the oldest domestic violence shelter in Illinois and is also recognized as one of the longest-standing in the nation. With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the organization plans to host a public event to commemorate this cause.

The nonprofit will host Courage on the Block on Oct. 18 from noon to 3 p.m. The event will occur at The Yard on Broadway in Urbana and is open to everyone without charge. This gathering is organized in collaboration with the City of Urbana and the Urbana Police Department.

The event will feature live performances by local musicians, a designated area for children’s activities, and personal stories shared by domestic violence survivors, among other attractions.
