Students from David Crockett High School in Jonesborough, Tenn. (WJHL) have joined forces with local businesses and a disaster recovery organization to conduct a plant drive supporting individuals affected by Hurricane Helene.

The David Crockett chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) is in search of volunteers and plant donations to help landscape newly constructed homes situated along the Nolichucky River.

Students will use the skills learned in FFA to help those affected.

“In the wake of Hurricane Helene, our community suffered greatly, and we aim to restore beauty to the homes along the river as they are rebuilt,” explained sophomore Max Sanders. “The silt has left these areas barren, and we want to offer a small sense of hope through this effort.”

Plants can be dropped off at the high school. All types of plants are being accepted, but the FFA also has suggestions.

They hope to run the plant drive through the end of May.
