GA State Trooper injured in accident, taken to Savannah hospital

WAYCROSS, Ga. () — A Georgia State Trooper was injured in a collision Wednesday when his car overturned and landed in a creek during a chase.

Georgia State Patrol Captain Crystal Zion reported that Trooper Justin Jones initiated a traffic stop in Ware County. The suspect took off, prompting Trooper Jones to give chase.

The Trooper employed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver. Following the execution of the PIT, Jones’ car veered off onto the roadside and flipped into a creek. The suspect’s car ended up upright atop the patrol car.

Submerged in the creek, Trooper Jones lost consciousness. Emergency life-saving actions were administered at the scene. Once stabilized, Jones was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

The suspect was arrested on scene by officers after he attempted to flee on foot.
