ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) – With just a trio of days remaining before Election Day in Virginia, Governor Glenn Youngkin and his Republican allies addressed voters in Southwest Virginia.

Speaking at the ‘Get out the Vote’ rally, Youngkin cautioned attendees about the potential consequences of electing Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Abigail Spanberger, particularly concerning Virginia’s job market. He emphasized the positive trajectory the region is currently on, stating, “We are witnessing the creation of over 4,000 new jobs due to your hard work, alongside more than $1 billion in investments here in Southwest Virginia.” He continued with a stark warning: “Choosing the wrong path with Abigail Spanberger would endanger all of this. She would literally dismantle our progress, eliminate the right to work, and compel Virginians to join unions.”

Attorney General Jason Miyares, another prominent Republican figure, defended his bid for reelection amidst controversy surrounding leaked messages from his Democratic opponent, Jay Jones. Miyares stressed the importance of integrity in the role, asserting, “This election transcends politics; it’s about decency. Jay Jones has shockingly advocated violence against children and expressed a desire for harm to law enforcement. As attorney general, my primary duty is to combat violence, and I find it unimaginable for someone like Jones, who has called for such egregious acts, to pursue this office. Every law enforcement organization in the state has not only endorsed me but also declared Jones unfit for the role, calling for his withdrawal. Yet, he persists in running.”

Republican gubernatorial contender Winsome Earle-Sears also addressed the crowd, sharing her vision if elected as Virginia’s first female governor. Earle-Sears pledged continued support and respect for law enforcement.

“My election’s no longer about the politics. It’s about decency. We’ve never had anybody like Jones who is running for attorney general that has advocated for violence against children. And he told colleagues he wanted to see cops die. Your number one job as attorney general is to stop violence. That’s my job as the top prosecutor,” said Miyares. “I can’t imagine somebody like Jay Jones, who’s running for this office, who’s literally advocated for children to die in their mothers arms, to die twice. Every single law enforcement organization in the state not only has endorsed me, but they’ve said Jones is disqualified and should drop out of the race. But he’s decided to stay in.”

Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears also gave testimony to what she will do if she is elected as the first female governor of Virginia. Earle-Sears said they will continue to honor their law enforcement.

“When I’m governor, I’m going to propose the first $20,000 of their salary won’t be taxed. We need money for that. We need them. Need them,” said Earle-Sears. “The Democrats demoralized our law enforcement and Department of Corrections personnel. And so they left and because you hired us, they came back. Although some places they’re still short-staffed. But they came back because they see we care about them, too. We can’t go back, folks.”

Earle-Sears went on and said that they will continue to encourage success for the Commonwealth’s growth in jobs.

“This election is not really about the next four years. This election is about our future for our children and their children’s children. That’s what this is about. We’ve had four glorious years where we’ve been creating jobs left and right,” said Earle-Sears.
