ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A tragic incident in Pine Hills has left an Orange County family in turmoil after 45-year-old DeGwendolyn “Gwen” Floyd was fatally stabbed on November 28, the day following Thanksgiving.

Rashonda Floyd, Gwen’s sister, expressed her family’s profound grief. Before reading the obituary she penned for Gwen, Rashonda described her anguish, saying, “These have been some of the worst days of my life.”

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived at the scene around 11 p.m. on Friday, responding to a stabbing on Rockingham Circle. Gwen was transported to the hospital, where she was later declared deceased.

Rashonda believes her sister may have known her attacker. She recounted information from Gwen’s landlord, indicating Gwen had been on the phone when she answered the door and turned away.

The search for the suspect is ongoing, as the Orange County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation. No arrests have been reported so far.

Despite the uncertainty, Rashonda remains hopeful. “My hope is we get justice for my sister. I’m confident in the detectives working the case,” she affirmed, noting that investigators have assured her of significant progress.

She shared that the hardest moments come at the start of each day.

“The mornings are the roughest for me because I’m starting a new day without her saying ‘Gracie.’” Floyd goes on to say, “Gwen was always offering to help someone if they needed it and she had a loud distinct laugh that you couldn’t help but laugh too.”

The family had been together before the killing on Thanksgiving and enjoying time with Gwen. Floyd says it’s still unreal to her that her sister is dead.

“I just saw her, just talked to her and touched her and laughed with her and watched her dance,” Rashonda Floyd said. “To getting that call late Friday night…”

Now she and her family are planning her sister’s funeral. “She wanted to be cremated, and she wanted her ashes spread in the ocean. She loved water,” Rashonda Floyd said.

Remembering Gwen, she added, “My sister was a loving, genuine person who did not deserve this.”

OCSO says this is an active investigation. The family is urging anyone with information to come forward so they can finally receive justice.
