SAVANNAH, Ga. () — As football season nears, high school teams across Georgia are putting themselves to the test in preparation.
Friday night’s scrimmages highlighted two significant matchups: Savannah High School vs. Islands High School and Bethesda Academy vs. Frederica Academy.
At the Islands High School Stadium, the Islands Sharks defended their field during a scripted scrimmage that didn’t record any scores or downs.
Defensive end Michael Cooler stood out for the Sharks defensively, pressuring Savannah High’s quarterbacks all night.
In terms of offense, senior duo Quarterback Chet Bachman and wide receiver Jayson Padgett connected for a quick redzone score.
Running back Jackson Tripp also added a two-yard touchdown run.
Similarly, Bethesda Academy held their ground against Frederica Academy. The Blazers gained traction with a significant fourth-down stop in the second quarter.
Later in the quarter, they built on that momentum, beginning a touchdown drive with a big gain from a screen pass followed by a swift touchdown run.
The Blazers scored again later in the half to win 13-0.
GHSA football officially begins in two weeks, with games set to start on Aug. 15.
