Illini Struggle with Turnovers in Defeat Against Top-Ranked Ohio State

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois has lost its first home game of the season against the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Illini committed three turnovers, resulting in 21 points for the Buckeyes, and fell 34-16.

Five minutes into the second half, Illinois finally got on the scoreboard with a short run by Aidan Laughery, reducing the lead Ohio State had established.

The Illini scored again late in the fourth quarter, a four-yard reception from Collin Dixon followed by a failed two-point conversion to make things 34-16 Ohio State.

Early in the game, quarterback Luke Altmyer threw his first interception of the year, his first in more than 150 attempts.

Illinois’ 16 points are the most Ohio State has allowed all season, the Buckeyes now 6-0. The Illini move to 5-2 following the loss.

The Illini are off in Week 8 but head west to face the Washington Huskies on Saturday, October 25, with a time and broadcast assignment still to be announced.
