SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Savannah Mayor Van Johnson has declared a boil water notice affecting the entire water system, which includes both Chatham County and Effingham County, for a duration of 24 hours.
Throughout this period, the public is urged to boil all water for at least one minute prior to using it for drinking, cooking, or food preparation. Additionally, boiled or bottled water should be utilized for oral hygiene, preparing baby formula, and cleaning fruits and vegetables.
In a Facebook update, Johnson explained that the precautionary measure is “due to a turbidity (cloudiness) issue in the water.” He reassured that this problem has now been resolved.
According to Johnson, “We are working closely with the Environmental Protection Agency and conducting tests to ensure water safety. The notice will be removed once tests confirm it is safe for consumption.”
will update the story as more details become available.
