Gibson City, ILL. (WCIA) – A heavy police presence is happening in Gibson City this morning

Illinois State Police is leading the investigation. A State Fire Marshall vehicle also arrived to the scene around 7:30a.

A WCIA Crew on scene learned there was a house fire in the 100 block of Ash Street on the south side of town.

Shortly after 4:00 a.m., one of our WCIA staff members was advised by a Law Enforcement Officer to “Go home now and lock up your doors” as they were on the lookout for an armed suspect.

Our WCIA team observed a significant police presence involving numerous agencies. On site were the Illinois State Police, Paxton Police, Gibson City Police, the Ford County Sheriff, IDOT, Gibson City Public Works, alongside various fire departments.

This morning, several roads in Gibson City are blocked, including Route 9 from Dairy Queen to Marks on First and Route 47 from Subway extending a mile south of the town. Additionally, Sangamon Avenue is closed from HR Block heading south. Most businesses in the southern part of the town are shut. Drivers are advised to steer clear of the area until further notice.

Flight tracking software showed that an Illinois State Police aircraft was circling the area this morning. This was also confirmed by our team present at the site, who observed the plane flying in circles over the town.

The City of Gibson posted on their page that due to the fire, brown or discolored water is possible today.

The response continues this morning with multiple agencies involved and investigating on scene.

This is a developing story, we are working to learn more.
