A woman from Jonesborough has been charged with child endangerment following an incident where she was found driving under the influence, authorities reported. This incident occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released a statement indicating that April Garland, age 39, faces charges of child endangerment, possession of a handgun while under the influence, driving under the influence, and violating open container laws.
Deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of New Salem Road after a witness reported a young child approached their home asking for directions and then returned to a vehicle. The witness suggested to Gardner to park her car, leading her to drive to the end of the cul-de-sac and park, after which the witness contacted 911.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the child and found Garland lying in the front seat. She reportedly admitted to having consumed alcohol. When she exited the vehicle, deputies observed a handgun in the driver’s side door compartment. Additionally, two open beer containers were found by the deputies.
A family member reportedly picked the child up.
Deputies transported Garland to the Washington County Detention Center. She is being held without bond and will appear in court on Thursday.
