Heavy police presence near Victory Park in Urbana, negotiations with man in house

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — For the last five hours, a significant police operation has been concentrated near Victory Park in Urbana as they engage in negotiations with a man inside a home.

This activity is located at the corner of S Lynn and E Green Streets. Authorities report they are executing a warrant and have been in discussions with a man residing in the house for the duration of five hours. Additionally, police mentioned that there is another individual inside the residence with him.

WCIA’s on-site photographer observed officers bringing equipment to access a building and overheard a phone conversation attempting to persuade a person to exit the premises.

The Urbana Police Department, Champaign Police Department and Illinois State Police are all currently on scene. WCIA reached out to Urbana Police Chief Larry Boone for additional information on this incident, and he declined to comment.
