URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) – A local committee is partnering with community organizations to promote healthy aging in Champaign County.

The Age-Friendly Champaign-Urbana initiative is organizing a series of events tailored for those over 50 to celebrate Active Aging Week, taking place from Oct. 6-12. Janet Soesbe, who is the Community Program Manager at the Urbana Park District and a member of the steering committee, emphasized the significance of these activities.

“Our aim was to emphasize and demonstrate all the enriching, fun, and exciting activities that [Age-Friendly Champaign-Urbana] offer for individuals 50 and over,” Soesbe mentioned. “This is truly a wonderful community for retirement with plenty of activities happening.”

The event will include a variety of health and wellness activities for participants, such as yoga sessions, walking groups, and pickleball games. Additionally, health workshops covering topics like Tinnitus and Alzheimer’s disease will be presented.
