County, city governments prepare for possible weather emergencies

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Local county and city governments are preparing ahead of possible weather emergencies.

On Saturday afternoon, the City of Savannah declared that it has moved into the Alert and Strategic Planning Stage, Operating Condition (OPCON) 3, indicating a notable rise in the threat level from a tropical cyclone expected to impact the city in the upcoming 72 hours.

Residents are advised by the city’s Sanitation Department to secure their sanitation carts and tie down any loose debris or items that might become hazardous projectiles during strong winds.

Jasper County officials have declared a State of Emergency ahead of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine (PTC 9). This is effective immediately.

The county is advising residents to begin preparations, review their emergency plans, keep up with trustworthy weather updates, and be prepared to heed instructions from local emergency management authorities.
