4 local teams advance in first round of volleyball state playoffs

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The volleyball teams from Calvary Day, Savannah Christian, Islands, and South Effingham have successfully advanced to the second round of the playoffs after securing victories in their initial matchups on October 15.

Calvary Day faced an initial setback against Prince Avenue Christian, dropping the first four points. However, they quickly regained momentum and clinched the match with a decisive 3-0 victory in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Savannah Christian made an assertive start against Atlanta International, a team struggling with only eight wins this season. The Raiders dominated the match, securing a 3-0 win.

Islands had a strong beginning, winning the first two sets against Southeast Bulloch. Despite encountering difficulties in the third set, where their seven-point lead was erased, leading to a 24-24 tie, the Lady Yellow Jackets managed to take that set 26-24. Nonetheless, the Lady Sharks rallied to close out the match 3-1, advancing to the next round.

In Guyton, the South Effingham Lady Mustangs overcame Apalachee with a 3-1 victory. With the match initially tied at one set each, South Effingham took command in the third set, paving their way to success.
