HEPHZIBAH, Ga. () – A man has been arrested in connection to the fatal Peach Orchard Road crash that resulted in the death an 8-year-old on Monday.
Lee Earnest Jones, Jr., aged 49, has been detained at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. He faces charges including misdemeanor Homicide By Vehicle, with an additional charge of Failure to Yield While Turning Left.
Eight-year-old Camden Poole of Hephzibah died as a result of the collision on May 5.
Hephzibah Elementary School sent a letter to families Tuesday to address Camden’s death, who was a student at the school.
The letter reads as follows:
Dear Hephzibah Elementary Families,
The school community at Hephzibah Elementary School is mourning the passing of a second-grade student. This heartbreaking event has deeply affected both students and staff.
To assist during this difficult time, grief counselors are on hand to offer support services. These services will remain available to students as long as necessary. Parents who feel their child might benefit from counseling are encouraged to contact the school to arrange these services.
Please be aware that your child may experience strong feelings in response to this tragedy, including sorrow and depression as well as anger and fear. Your child may have a special need at this time for your comfort and support; please try to be available to listen to them.
This is a very difficult time for all of us. We want to be sensitive to the needs of your children.
