Todd McKinley, who represents the 5th District on the Sullivan County Board of Education and recently served as President of the Sullivan County Veterans Memorial, has been chosen as the Department Commander for the American Legion of Tennessee. His election and swearing-in took place on Sunday in Nashville.

As Department Commander, McKinley takes on the role of chief executive officer, overseeing the organization’s operations, putting into effect various programs and policies, and acting as a connection to the national organization.

A lifetime member of the American Legion, McKinley is affiliated with Post 3 in Kingsport. This post convenes on the third Monday of each month in the Eastman Conference Room, located on the second floor of the V.O. Dobbins Center.

McKinley encouraged all veterans to join the American Legion, the nation’s largest and most prominent veterans service organization.

As he recently noted, “all the services and benefits Veterans currently enjoy, can be undone with a stroke of a pen. That’s why it’s vitally important to bolster membership numbers, after all, the term there’s strength in numbers rings true when you consider our nation’s legislative process and how legislation is advocated for and ultimately passed and signed into law.”
